New to BYC

Welcome to BYC. It's very wise of you to wait for the run, as that will give peace of mind when you do get the chickens. There is a lot of information about building secure runs on this website. The 'search' button can help you find it. Good luck with your future flock.

You've come to the right place to get started... I'd suggest building the run a lot bigger than you think you need. Seems like everyone always ends up with extra chickens later on, and over-crowded conditions can cause some big problems.
A few articles to get you started:

How Much Room Do Chickens Need
Predator Proofing
Keeping Chickens Without Free Ranging

Best wishes in your new chicken adventure!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the flock! :welcomeBYC is a helpful site providing all of the information you need to know about poultry. There is always space for members on the BYC roost! :highfive:
If you have a lot of predators roaming your area I would recommend an enclosed run or a more substantial form of wire like hardware cloth. Mesh or chicken wire is flimsy and only keeps the chickens on their side of the run, not the predators. Make sure your coop is also secure (without holes). Adequate space in the both run and coop is also necessary. Good luck with developing your flock. What breeds are you planning to get?

Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!
