Hello!
Like a lot of people recently, I got chicks during early quarantine in March.
We started out with 3 silkies, 5 Buff Orpington, Bantam Rooster, 2 Barred Rock, and a Jersey Giant.
Everything was going great until we tragically lost 8 birds in a matter of minutes to a fox.
Since then they have been kept in the run which is sad since we have such a great yard for them but the best decision until we can figure out how to better protect them from predators.
After losing most of our birds, we brought in 4 Ameraucanas, 2 turned out to be roosters which was disappointing. The roosters have become problematic and we are trying to find a solution before one of them gets hurt.
Our Ameraucanas haven't started laying eggs yet, they're about 7 months old. Is this normal? Or do you think there might be an underlying issue?
Excited to have joined this community and to keep learning about raising chickens!
