Hey Y’all,
We are pretty new to chickens. Bought a farm that we will not permanently occupy for several more years. At closing the farmer sent my husband home with 4 Buff Orpington chickens. We thought we were ready with a coop and pen. However, these girls are used to free ranging and want nothing to do with the coop or pen. My nicely landscaped backyard is now a wreck. My brother will begin living on the farm soon, and these free rangers are going back to the farm with him. 😉 I will then start over with chicks that I can train to the coop. We have never done this before and have had quite the adventure so far. I’m sure we are entertainment for our neighbors. Our problem right now appears to be a broody hen.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Lock the broody in an elevated wire crate for 3 days and 2 nights with food, water and a piece of wood to perch on. About 1 hour prior to roost time on the third day let her out and monitor her. If she goes back to the nest box toss her back in the crate until the next night and try again. If she roosts with the flock, you broke her.
