New to BYC

:welcome

Hi, sorry for the loss of one of your original birds. How long have you had the new one segregated from the rest?
I have had her a month. I just let them all out of the coop and she stayed away from them. One of the Wyandottes started to follow her around then she went to another part of the yard.

I forgot to mention the new hen is a Sapphire Gem.

It's not too soon to try what @sourland and @TwoCrows have advised. Just keep an eye on things and expect some pecks (but no blood), it takes time to adjust to new flock mates.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
After a month I would allow them to intermingle and just observe. As long as she's not being chased down and has plenty of room to get away she should be okay. I personally think that the birds should have a minimum of 12 square feet per bird if confined.

The coop is 20 by 8...so even with 1/3, she has plenty of room.

Let them mingle yesterday and again today. If I see any aggressive behavior I will keep separate at night. Hope to get this done before bad weather.

Have been reading the forum...
Bullying is an issue with one of my Wyandottes...Gretta. The others seem to feed off of her energy. SO...I put Gretta in the 1/4 closed off area. With her in time-out, the others have had no issues today.

Also, need to note that the hen in time-out molted last year and is doing a mild molt now. The other hens are molting. The Wyandotte did not molt last year and she has lost everything but neck, chest and wings. I know they are stressed at this time and hopefully less energy to chase new "Blue".

We are expecting night time temps for 4 days this week to be in the teens.

Let me know your thoughts...
I will let Gretta mingle with others later today. If she insists on being a bully, she will spend the night in small area.

This will be the first night Blue will have access to the roosting/nesting area.

Crossed fingers and toes!
