New to BYC!

Hey all!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I have kept chickens for years in the city. I got my first flock in 2016.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I currently don’t have any chickens, but I’m in the exciting process of choosing breeds and getting ready for a new flock!

(3) What breeds do you have?

In the past I’ve kept black australorps, lavender orpingtons, ameraucanas (my fav), barred rocks, sapphire gems, and french copper marans.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I will never get over the joy of finding that first little pullet egg in the nest box.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I love reading, painting, and writing.

I still love finding eggs in the nest boxes, too. When my mom visits, she also says that's her favorite. I agree that Pullet eggs are especially exciting.

Best wishes for your new flock! You're probably definitely going to get some Ameraucanas, but, just out of curiosity, what other breeds were you researching?

I’m thinking about chocolate orpingtons, but I’m not sure yet. If you have favorite breeds I’d love any recommendations!
