Hi. We are based in a smallholding in the north of Spain, trying to be as self sufficient as possible. We have about 30 chickens in total. We have a breed indigenous to Spain called Castellana Negra. They are on the list of endangered species and we are part of an official breeding program to try and increase numbers. We also keep Booted Bantams as they make fantastic broodies and mothers. We also have some mixed breed chickens. We've just hatched some Guinea Fowl chicks. Our birds are all free range. We also have Muscovy and Khaki Campbell ducks. Recently we acquired geese although sadly we lost 3 recently after they were attacked by angry bees. We have a few sheep and also keep bees. We have a pet dog and a cat. Apart from the birds and animals we have a large vegetable garden. We live in an old floor mill which dates from the beginning of the 18th century. We've always found the BYC forum really useful and hopefully we can contribute useful information based on our own experiences here in Spain.
