You may consider me new only because I've just signed up...but I've been on BYC at least once a week for the past 4months. There's a lot to learn. It was my DH's idea to get chickens and I was sure I was not going to get involved...But they are just so cute and fun to watch. So, now I'm all in:D We started our flock in March '09. We're trying to free range our chickens. Which has worked until our neighbors dog found out we had chickens. We have 36 acres south of Atlanta, GA with lots of trees and briars they can hide in and forage. If we could get our neighbors dog taken care of then we might be able to get some eggs;). We just bought some more babies locally and I don't want to let them out until I know the dog is "under control". So, here's a question for you all. I have a chicken-a buff, that I'm trying to nurse back to health-neighbors dog. She is 12wks old and she has a "knee" or what I would think would be her knee, that is "cut"-it looks like I can see her bone. I have her seperated from the rest of the flock and not using it other than getting food and water. She walks very well and just limps a little bit. What should I do for her to ensure that she makes it. She is so sweet. Well, I guess that is enough for now. I'm glad to be a part of the BYC forum.

Also new to chickens, so no advice for your injured one, but

from UT! It's amazing how addicting chickens can be. Maybe try posting something in the emergency section regarding the injury.

from Alabama, If it is using the leg and its not bothering the poor thing, I would thing that maybe just some antibiotics to make sure it doesn't get infected. I'm by no means an expert though.

welcome, and I would put neosporen of her cut and wrap it up. If you could a picture would be nice and post it on the emergencies section. And if you havent I would talk to your neighbors about keeping the dog in there yard. I had trouble with my dogs staying in our yard so we put a fence up and the neighbor did too. One day our got over their again and he called the pound on us. Thank goodness we got a warning cause it could of cost 1000$ fine. well we decided to give our dag to my dad. Goodluck!
