Hello everyone. We are still pretty new chicken people. We have a very eclectic flock. We have two roosters and twelve hens. We don`t know what breeds all of them are, but we love them any way. We have had six little chicks hatch in the last three days they are all mixed breeds. We always have an over abundance eggs, so we are always looking for ideas for ways to use eggs.

Welcome to BYC!!!

! Pleased to have you with us! I also have a flock of a lot of different breeds. My gal made the best custard cake the the other day with some our our eggs - it was great - turned out so yellow with the free range eggs!

you could try selling your extra eggs, or giving them to the neighbors OR you could boil up the eggs, chop them up and feed back to the chickens. Don't use raw or they might become egg eaters in the coop. The shells could be baked a bit in the oven, then pulverized in the blender and put out for them in a container to meet their calcium needs.

We are now up to 11 chicks. How soon can we determin sex? And how do we do it? Thier all cute as buttons now.

Well,it all depends on what breeds they are. EEs are pretty easy to sex because the boys have a different feather pattern than the girls. Silkies are almost impossible to sex-- you have to wait until they either roo or lay an egg.

Hello from Oregon & welcome to BYC. Post pics of them & it might help others identify the sex. Depends on the breed :) Best of luck.
