Thanks. Being new to chickens, such things happen. We learned from it and I think the girls did too. We've had one hop the fence since and she was fine but the dog managed to pluck all her tail feathers. Hasn't done it since though...

I think we're going to add a Speckled Sussex and a Welsummer. The breeder we purchased our first set of girls recommended them when we got the original flock but didn't have any available. We were going to pick them up yesterday, but things came up. The breeder is closed on Saturdays, so it looks like a Sunday trip.

I've had both breeds and you'll enjoy them. The Speckled Sussex are friendly and calm and the Welsummers lay beautiful chocolate eggs. Good luck with your new flock.

Thanks. Can't wait to get them tomorrow. This will be the first time we add birds to the flock, so we're in for another learning experience of introducing new birds to the others. I am sure all will be fine though!
