Good and bad news: Silkie hens generally go broody and will hatch their eggs. Some people have them just for that reason so they don't need an incubator.
Con: silkies have their vision obscured by big crests and beards - also their type of feathers don't lend themselves to flying. If they free range, they will disappear fast. You can cut back crest and beards if you don't intend to show them but, they still can't fly away from danger so they really need to be in a safely enclosed run to protect them from predators.
