Thankyou so much!
It really is a sad discovery for us, had so many deaths lately- dogs, bird, grandad, I'm not sure my neice (3yo) will cope with another :(
Will think about rehoming her I think, :(

Should chickens be kept in even/odd numbers?
It doesn't matter whether they are in even or odd numbers, however they are gregarious birds that like company, so you should at least keep two of them. Keeping at least three is a good idea. That way if something happens to one of them, the other two can still keep each other company. Good luck with your flock.

Yes you are right,
Before popcorn came I was deliberating whether to get a third because I don't know how old Henny Penny is, and didn't want noodles to be sad and lonely if she died. I had forgotten about that issue when I got popcorn!
Before I got my 2nd chicken, Henny Penny was so social with us and wanted to be with someone all the time, and it was great once she had a friend of her own, I didn't feel bad for leaving her all the time! And she is much happier!
We love our girls :)
Just going to be hard now deciding what to do with popcorn, from all I have learnt today, it seems mean to keep her...

Even numbers isn't necessary. It is important to make sure and add at least two birds to an existing flock, one tends to get singled out as you've seen with your CX.

Hi guys,
I just wanted to update you on popcorn!
I ended up keeping her segregated from my other two chickens with a fence, but in the same yard, and popcorn really wanted to be their friend, but the were too mean to her. So I slowly let them mingle for short periods. And eventually left the gate open over night so they could sleep in their own beds, but hang out during the day. And now!!! They are happily living together in the same yard! Popcorn even sleeps in the big house sometimes! There are a few quabbles every now and then, but I think that is normal. And they are getting along wonderfully! I am really happy for them. Popcorn is huge compared to the other two, kind of walks like she is a granny!
Love them all, but popcorn is my favourite!
