Hi all, Im from North West Ohio and I have been raising chickens for about 3 years now. I found BYC coming across a search today on how big of a door for my chickens in their new coop. I think im going with a 9 inch by 9 inch door with a sliding door nearest the outside. I built this new coop which is a 4x5x10 structure with 4 levels, which houses 9 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Brahama, 1 White Rock at this time. The old coop which housed 3 chickens is an old doghouse which is about 3x4x3 with a medium sized dog cage sandwiched together so they can go outside, which is now my Cornish Rock coop. To add to all of this a friend just gave me 8 more Rhode Island Reds a week ago so now I am trying to decide how to make these girls more comfortable this winter.

Glad you joined us!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. You have some hardy, dependable, good laying breeds. The first breed I ever had (about 50 years ago) were Light Brahmas, and they were gentle giants. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
