Hello!
I'm Shannon, I'm a mother to 5 kids (1 mine, 1 ours, and 3 his
)) and currently run a motel for my in-laws. I've used this site numerous times to see if ordinances where in areas we wanted to move and to solve issues I've had through-out the time of having my chickens. I never in a million years would of thought I'd be a chicken owner, but now that I am, I LOVE it! My son's preschool hatched chickens during the last few weeks of school and he would not take no for a answer when he asked to keep them. Before they hatched we decided to buy a couple from the local feed store and give it a shot.

Ended up with 3 road island hens and just adore them! When he's class hatched their eggs I ended up with another 7 chickens! We live in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. We found out shortly after we built our coop and put them outside that we were not allowed to have chickens here
It broke my heart! I think our rooster gave us away though cause we had them at our place for almost 5 months before the grumpy city worker came through threatening us with fines!

We ended up moving 10 minutes away to Garibaldi at one of our rental houses, since they are allowed down there. That was a wonderful adventure for the first part. My son named one of his chickens Brownie, which is like a child's first gold fish to him! He adores his chicken. She is the master of proving people wrong! We spent the first two months trying to make our "temporary" living situation for them work for her, she loves flying out of the coop and got the others to follow her!

Up until 3 days ago it worked for them, but I went to check them and found one of my road islands frozen and not moving. Noticed all the feathers everywhere and realized my chickens were not safe anymore. Turned out my neighbors cat just couldn't contain her self and decided to attack the poor girl! We ended up moving them back to our place, trying to hide them best we can so ordinance doesn't come back before we move from here!

We are currently relocating back to Washington, which is great for my chickens since every city up there almost seems to allow chickens!
Any-who, that is my story, I really hope I did over due my introduction!! lol I'm happy to be part of this group and can't wait to go more into reading about everyone's chicken adventures!
