New to BYC!

There are a few farms that I heard of in Michigan that rent chickens. I'm not sure what breeds they work with yet, but they deliver the chickens, coop, and supplies to your home in the spring and come back in the fall to pick everything up.

I would love to hear how that goes and what breeds you end up renting. Keep us posted. :o)

Hello and welcome. Renting chickens? New to me, but it sounds fun. Let us know how it works out. Good Luck!

Renting chickens, I think I heard about that last year. I would imagine the fees involved are pretty high considering they bring all the stuff coop, etc. to you. I think you would get just as attached to the rental birds as you would you own. So if they have to go back after a year(pilot chicken program) you'd be just as sad.

Could you try a couple house chickens first (maybe bantams) to see how you feel about them? There is a very good thread on BYC called "People with House chickens." Many people chose to do this or have to because they aren't allowed to have chickens in their area. In either case, I think you are going to be quite smitten with chickens. Good luck to you.

With the rentals the chickens are tagged that way if you want to do it again next spring they send you the same chickens you had before. However, my plans have changed. Recently my Aunt offered to give me 4 of her hens instead of spending the money on renting. So now we are looking into coop plans.
