Hello, Im new to chickens in general. I just got 4 black sex links chicks (females) about a week ago. in love with them already...my 3 yr old triplets are in love also.. I've wanted chickens now for about a year after visiting at my grandmothers farm and seeing her chickens. it seemed like the right thing for my family. on average it takes a dozen eggs to feed my family for breakfast and lets face it they can get pretty expensive. also they are like tiny garbage disposals. i like that food will not be wasted anymore. although my dogs tend to eat what the kids leave behind but they don't enjoy the veggies..

just wanted to drop in and say hello

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you could join our community!! Be careful with too much extra stuff you feed your birds. Their chicken feed should be 90% of their diet for good health. Chickens will eat darn near everything, but it can compromise their health over time if they are not eating enough of their formulated diet. Back in the old days, table scraps consisted of nearly all of the chickens diet. These birds weren't all that great of layers, all that healthy and were usually butchered early in life as well.

Enjoy this new adventure you are on. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask around the forums.

Welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Black Sex Links are my favorites as they are friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. You should get loads of large, brown eggs from those four girls. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your BSLs.

thank you for yalls warm welcome. I've been busy building the chicken run the last few days. its been an experience to say the least. :)
