Just joined BYC after finding the website helpful on more than one occasion. Unfortunately our neighbor's terrier got loose and broke into our coop (still not sure exactly how) about a month ago taking out most of our flock. :( So right now we have a Buff Orpington rooster and lavender guinea as well as 15 month old chicks (Welsummer, Wheaten Ameraucana and Olive Eggers). Looking forward to being a member here!
 
Have you had a talk with your neighbor? He should at least offer to compensate for the value of your birds at time of massacre. He also should be trying much harder to keep control of his dog. In many area a dog killing livestock(poultry too) can be shot and killed. If you can capture him, take him to an animal shelter so his owners has to pay to get him back. You should also document the killing with the police or animal control. The first time is a surprise to everyone but it establishes a behavior. The next time shows it's a habit.

You could try running a few strands of electrified fencing around the coop or your outdoor run, if you have one. One good jolt might change the dogs mind about chickens.

Wow, hope you did talk with the neighbor. That's hard to do when you want to keep things civil. They need to know though. Good luck.

That is really sad!

But good luck with your flock. Those are some great breeds! Buff orpingtons are my favorite breed. They are so sweet and docile.

Great Advice- I second it. I have had experience with neighbor dogs that wont go away. They just kept barking at the turkeys.
