New to chicken husbandry

Hi. Retired to the country a year ago and got my first 6 chickens a couple months ago. 3 Buff orpingtons and 3 RI reds. All about 3 months old. Girls are doing mostly good. Ran into this site when trying to figure out why one wont sit on the roost. Super glad to have found you.
Hiya Shady Oak Lady,
I am new to chicken keeping too, I’m based in a forest area of the uk and have 7 red hens which are now approx9 months old
They are great fun and very interesting
I’ve found this site great for advice
and ideas, chicken behaviour has been a main ficus( who knew chickens had such different personalities!!)
Our 7 ladies all have names ( including Olaf and Elsa! ) and two of them are rowdy noisy chookies!
keep in touch

Hello, I have two 3 month old hens that I have to carry in every night and place on the roost next to my older 5 month old hens. I open the coop door and let them out every morning, but they wait for me to tuck them in at night. I did not think adding chicken to different age groups would be so troublesome.
