New to Chicken Life

Therapy Chickens.jpg Silkies can be use as therapy chickens!

Hello! My name is Mary Ellen. A family friend suggested that I join this site. I live in Kentucky and I love chickens (dogs, cats, lizards and snakes too). My Grandmother had a large cement chicken coop when I was growing up and she would allow my cousin and I to go inside and gather the eggs. It was a wonderful memory! After speaking to a trusted chicken owner, I have decided to purchase two Silkie Hens (not chicks) for my backyard this Spring. I live in a neighborhood and have a relatively small yard. However, I have a great spot picked out for the two Silkie Hens. I look forward to starting this new venture! Thank you for including me!

You have some good memories from the farm

Oh hi the Mary Ellen!! I’m so glad you joined! Silkies are such cute little fluff balls!! I’m sure you’ll enjoy them! You are going to love it here on BYC, everyone is so friendly and helpful..and we love to see pictures of animals too...so feel free to post them soon! Lots of people will be glad to give you coop and run ideas before you build suited for your yard...so it’s great that you joined ahead of time! Building your own typically seems to last longer for coops, but if you can’t, and have the extra money..then the ones they sell are sure pretty to go along with silkies! Well, from all of us at BYC, we’re glad you joined and can’t wait to hear more things to come!

:welcome

Hi Mary Ellen, it's nice to have you here! I'd go with 3-4 birds, instead of 2...sometimes things happen and you don't want to be left with a lonely only (they are flock animals).

Best of luck, always feel free to ask questions!
