Welcome to Backyard chickens. It's so nice of your to rescue that hen. If you only plan on having the one, you may find her to make a good house pet. There is a popular thread on BYC called "People with house chickens."
Thank you to everyone. I would like to know the best way to make her a safe area to go outside this spring while I'm outside. We do have hawks in my area. I'm terrified she will get hurt or killed I have seen the hawk numerous times. She does live inside I was thinking of a run with a shade area and sunny area both but not a coop. How do i make it as strong as I can to protect my precious girl from the hawk?
Hawks don't always swoop from the sky, the will sit and look for vulnerable areas in the run. Many use bird netting covers, but I have seen a few reports of hawks getting in at the edges. I think the safer way to go is with crossing wires or welded wire across the top - assuming you mean a non-roofed run.
Most areas also have raccoon and dogs, even suburbs, so make sure you consider those in your defensive plans.
With only one hen, I would look at the chicken chunnel ideas?
If you already have ideas of how you plan to build it, then post on coop/run forum to get more opinions.
