New to chicken raising. Hello

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes we are new to raising and we got out first 7 birds on the 27th of July. We purchased them from Atwood's, we initially got 8 but 1 didn't make it past the first week.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Right now we have 13 birds, a coworker of my wife's had a hed brood 7 eggs and she didnt have the room for them so we took 6 of those.

(3) What breeds do you have?

The breeds are not 100% clear, the 7 we got from Atwood's were 1st run Bantons so we really dont know the exact breed. Also the 6 we got from my wife's friend are a mix of Rhode island reds and I think their called Domoniques.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

So far we just love sitting with them and holding them. Watching them hustle around after bugs is also great.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

As a family we like to fish, hunt, bike ride and take care of the property.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Our family consists of myself, a retired army vet with 27 years and I currently work for the DOD. My wife is a para-professional for the elementary school and my son is 11 in the 6th grade. We also have a Labradoodle. We just bought a home on 7 acres after I retired from the Army.
