Hello from St. Louis, MO...we are new to raising chickens and I've been spending quite a bit of my "spare" time on BYC. We have 5 Easter Eggers, 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Speckled Sussexes, and 1 White Rock.

Getting ready to finish the coop and move our girls outside (they're currently living in luxury indoors!) We have a nice big chicken yard sectioned off in the back and plan to let them loose to free range during the days when we are home. When they have to stay enclosed they'll still have the use of a generously sized coop and run. We're learning as we go and relying heavily on the forums and articles here for some great information.

Can't wait until fall when our fresh eggs start coming - any suggestions on where to purchase inexpensive but cute egg cartons for sharing our bounty? Our friends who share just use old cartons from the market, which is completely fine, too. Just looking to make it more fun.

One more question...we're still debating what to do with the coop door. I'm interested in having an automatic door that will open and close between the coop and the run at dusk and dawn. Is there a particular manufacturer that's better than the others?

Thanks in advance for your help!
The Sundermans :)

Have fun with your chickens! We buy large groups of egg cartons of the internet. I don't know any thing about automatic doors, but I'm sure someone will help you out. Good Luck :)

Hello and welcome to the world of chickens! I too have spent much "spare" time on BYC and have learned a great deal. A good place to ask about automatic doors would be in the "Raising BackYard Chickens" forum under "Coop & Run."

Best wishes and happy chickens!
