we do have a container with scratch that we shake and give them in the am - they do come running for that!!

I sort of had the same problem that you did when we first got our hens. When they were pullets, and around your hens' age, they weren't very nice or acclimated to us.

There are some stories, including when they ate both of my diamond earrings, but we'll skip those. When they get older, it's likely they will be friendlier. Especially Orps, from what I've heard.
I sit down with them and hold them daily. The more you do it, the more friendly they will be. Don't you worry!

How large is your coop and run? You will want lots of space for them for the upcoming winter.

The coop is a pre-fab from tractor supply and it should have enough room to move but not to much so they get chilly. The covered run is kind of small but I think we are going to put up some temporary shields to keep snow off larger area and we will shovel for them too..the dog gets paths so i guess they should too!!

they have some space and will shovel for them as well - out their doing it for the dog anyways!!
