I had planed to have the coop elevated and not stuck on 8x8 just went there do to wood sizes...

I'll say it again, chickens in Dallas don't need a coop. Your coop will easily get over 100* in the summer and they will avoid it like the plague. 1 or 2 light frosts is a welcome relief and they won't miss a beat. Explore other options. Find locals who can give you advice on what they would recommend and what works for them.... housing for winter and egg laying

You'll need good cover for shade and maybe rain.
Maybe a 3 sided deal with a roof for roosting, to prevent reach-ins.
