New to chickens and jumping in head first

Welcome to BYC ...I agree with oldhenlikesdogs, all the things she listed will support the beneficial organisms from the soil, turning the litter into great compost/soil...if you have a garden or flower beds, they will love this stuff later. It will also help to not "stink" when the birds are on it after a while. If you just have dirt it will start getting "icky" (that is a very technical BYC word!) Enjoy those little fluff balls....as it is said "they grow up before you know it!"

Thank you guys so much. Learning more every day of course but I will be doing the deep litter method for sure and thats awesome to know about all the other things to add. It makes sense and now I feel dumb for not thinking of that. Here I'm worried about not being natural enough and I don't think of all the different layers.:th Oh well. Thats why I'll continue to research.

Never feel dumb. Everyone on the this site has learned from each other and we're all still learning. That's what I like about byc. Things that at first I thought were dumb questions for me to ask only to search thread and see that others have asked it too. And no one has ever made fun of me for asking anything. Welcome and I hope you enjoy your flock.
