Hello All...just joined BYC after a few weeks of lurking. Already learned a lot, and looking forward to continuing to learn and share as we undertake "chicken-hood".

We have 6 Red Star chicks arriving about two weeks. Coop and pen construction is underway, and we've started picking up the various supplies we'll need.

Our two year old son is already getting psyched....helping daddy and momma build the coop, tractor supply is already his favorite store, and he keeps talking about how he's going to help feed the "baby chicks".

Good luck with your chicken raising and I hope you learn a lot!

Welcome to BYC!

If you need any tips and hints on raising your new babies, stop by our learning center. Lots of good reads on all aspects of keeping poultry healthy and happy...

Great to have you aboard and enjoy those new babies!

I think it's great when kids get involved. Just looked over your "crate expectations," it's really shaping up nicely. I see you have a canine helper also.

Yes, it's been fun already watching my son as we build the coop, talk about getting the chicks, tell him he'll be helping with collecting eggs, etc.

This morning he was in his play room, hammering away with his toy hammer, saying "helping papa make chicken coop!".

The canine helper is the puppy my sister is fostering. He was quite curious about the coop. We were happy to find out that very afternoon that he was going to be heading to a great new home. She's had quite a few dogs come through and find good homes....always nice to see!
