I got my chickens this past October. When we bought our house the previous owner had them and offered me to keep them otherwise he had some friends that would introduce them to their flock. I decided to jump in head first. I did a LOT of googling and buying ebooks the first day. I think within 2 days I had read or scanned about 5 books and all Google searched led here.

I have 7 RIR hens and introduced a GLW too in January. He fit right in but did not make #1 in the pecking order.

My kids, hubby, and I have a lot more to learn about these fun filled birdies!

Hi!! I'm new to BYC as well, not new to chickens though! Congrats on getting you chickens in such a cool way! Books are always good but you can learn a lot from the people on here. Good luck in you chicken adventures!!!

I'm on a really good group on Facebook too. But I got the books because I had to learn to at least keep them alive and healthy in a matter of about a week.

Welcome, everyone, from a fellow newbie! JennaLynn122, I am really curious about that Facebook group you mentioned- I just can't seem to stop researching. (I guess it's official- I'm chicken obsessed.) Anyway, love to hear more, if it's a group that's open to everyone.

It is called raising chickens. Its a closed group so you have to ask to join but they aren't picky. They just make sure you are a real person basically
