I found this site after purchasing our new chickens. I will be checking it often to gain much needed information. My husband and I are new to the chicken world. We recently purchased Orpingtons, 5 Chocolates( 4 hens and 1 rooster) and 4 Lavenders ( all hens). The lavenders had been bred to a Lemon Cuckoo Orpington before we purchased them and the previous owner told us we could incubate any eggs they had during the 1st 2 weeks in hopes to add Lemons to our mix. We have 18 eggs incubating and are on day 19 today( fingers crossed). I have a question. I absolutely love my Orpingtons. I didn't think I would be a "chicken person" until we acquired them. Everything about them has drawn me, except for one thing, they are not very proficient layers; great dual purpose but not necessarily great layers. We are considering putting a few Leghorns in. Do these 2 breeds go well together. I know with Orpingtons being docile and easily dominated I don't want an overly aggressive breed in. How are Leghorns? Sorry for the length
