My wife and I are in the process of buying a new house with a little land and we both decided the first thing we want to do is raise some laying chickens. We are wanting 6-8 chickens and that is about all we know. Any advice on size of tractor or coop? Good chickens to raise? Any tips or tricks for beginners will be much appreciated. We look forward to building, raising, and learning all we can about our new pets/invesment. Thanks in advanced.

Rule of thumb is to allow 4 sg.feet per bird inside the coop, and 10 sg.feet per bird in outdoor run. Permanent coops are generally much more predator proof than chicken tractors.

Thanks for the replies. I just found out how to get to my post and see I had comments. We are looking for laying hens/pets. We actually just went yesterday and places an order for our baby chicks. 3buff orpingtons, 3dominiques, 3EEs, 2splash orpingtons. We are super excited.
