(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am very new to raising backyard chickens. My fiancee has had chickens before, but when he was very little. We've only had our hens for almost 2 weeks. They came from a co-worker of my fiancee.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 8 hens and 1 rooster.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 1 RIR and 7 Barred rock hens and our rooster is a silkie/cochin mix
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I found it when I kept googling stuff about chickens haha
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Fishing, hunting, camping, reading books, anything outdoors
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My fiancee and I live in Maine. We live off-the-grid to an extent haha. We have two boys 10&12. They are soon to be my stepsons, come this September!
I work as a Medical Assitant and he works maintenance. We are very new to raising backyard chickens. Just looking for some help/advice as to doing the right things! Thank you!!
