New to Chickens in Jacksonville, NC

Hi Craig and welcome to BYC.

On this link you'll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping birds - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archives . Ditto the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 I’d suggest including your location using the guide in that link. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes

Thank you all for your replies.
I have been doing some research and I do not think I will be ready for anything for a while. I have to be very comfortable with things before I dive in. I have found a few people that I trust that have sources for buying chickens from that they use themselves; so that is promising. They know people with Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. I will get the Rhode Island Reds for free from my friend who has close to 50 of them.

I think I will be doing a Garden Coop with Bees inside 3 feet high. A similar design to this:

I will be making the Coop wider than that though.

Does anyone have experience with Bees and Chickens?
