New to Chickens in NJ

How did you do at the fair? I was unable to go... I am in Northern NJ as well and am almost ready for my chickens BUT also do not know where to go!!! I'd like to get laying started before the winter sets in so babies would not work well in Late August! If you have any leads that would be great! Thanks!

I never made it to the fair either. I got a last minute call from Jersey Chickens in Jackson and I was able to pick up some 4 week old chicks. But in my research I did find other places but I did not visit them.

1. Big Dog Farm in Pompton Plains. I actually don't know much about their chickens but I spoke to one of the founders who converts sheds to chicken coops and he was very knowledgeable. I plan on checking them out when I decide to add to the flock
2. Goffle Road Poultry Farm in Wyckoff. When I spoke to them they had 3 month old chickens. 3. I found Brodhecker Farm in Newton online but never contacted them.

Hope this helps!! I've only had these chicks for 10 days I'm so in love with them! They are so much fun!

Thank you so much! I have a call into Big Dog Farms now (and a second number for Victor "The Chicken Man" who if I understand correctly is the caretaker at Big Dog Farms!) Our backup plan is Jersey Chickens in Jackson! So glad you are enjoying your new little ones. My daughter and husband are outside in the dark working to complete our coop as I type... We are very anxious to get started!

I will follow-up (hopefully) with my experience at Big Dog Farms! :)
Thanks again!

Yes, Victor is who I met with. I was impressed with him. He had a lot of great information. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
