new to chickens just checking on coop and run size.

I am looking to build a 4x6 coop with 5 foot high front and 4 foot high back and 2 nest boxes (or should i go 3?) on the outside for 6 hens, also for the run i am useing my 10x10 with 6 foot sides dog kennel, will the 10x10 be big enough for 6 hens? Also how big of cut out for the chickens to go in and out of the coop?

I have a 6x6 for 6 hens and there is lots of extra space =) So your size coop should be perfect. My hens don't like sharing nests. I built two but soon realized I needed one more. I have a banty that goes broody all the time, so there goes one nest. Which leaves the other 5 for one nest. It's so much better with 3 now. My run is 12 x15 (coop sits inside it) and they did just fine when I had to keep them in it for a couple months while the fence was down for tree work. They are a lot happier now that they free range all day. They tended to pick on the bottom hen in the pecking order when they were cooped up. I have a friend with 30 chickens and one tiny little 8"x8" door and her hens & roosters get in and out just fine. Mines about 12"x16" because I wanted good ventilation. I seem to read a lot of people use a 12"x12" door. Good luck with your new coop =)
