New to chickens when can I move them outside?

I agree - watching them is important and they are great little temperature guages - happy peeps and spread out = happy, distress peeps and huddling = cold! Mine slept in a group under the lights when they were younger and it was colder out, but they never acted distressed and didn't pile or huddle. Just snuggled.

I put my chicks in a nursery coop with a run. I do provide a heat lamp for them. They go in and out and if it's cool out they will stay in the coop. I don't know why but I have always gotten my chicks the 1st of Oct. I will be getting some chicks soon. This time I'll have summer chicks so I don't think heat will be a problem especially since I live in Florida. The nursery coop is being used as a shed right now as all of the birds are in the hen house. I'm going to put an addition on the hen house which is similar to speckledhen's pictured on her BYC Page.
