New to Chickens with Serama -Chicks- *~7 Week Photo Update!*

the same thing happend with a few of mine during my last hatch. one pipped about 3/4 of the way then died. how many are out so far?

None out yet...just the 2 pipped and couple that are close! I wouldn't have taken them out and candled except that the incubator was suddenly up to 105!!!!! I turned the stat down to 99 in hopes that that will keep it from jumping that high again! It wouldn't have been that high for more than a couple hours though (had checked). I wanted to get them out for a moment and cool them off a little...and I took the chance to candle without moving them real quick.

All but 1 at least pipped as of ~6 pm today!...1 out! Will take photos once its all fluffed up

And finally....out of curiosity we will test a chick sexing method!

we have 1 leg down (had both down the next time I picked up)....so supposedly pullet!


Oh yeah, there 3 chicks now! Will get pics of the other 2 when they dry off!

Could you explain that sexing method you are trying there. I am trying to figure out if any of the ways are the least bit accurate.

well....now I've seen 3 different versions of the same method....one says legs up male...one says legs up female...and one says a specific side down is one or the other.... **shrug** we shall see!

Gosh they are cute! Congrats! That leg thing sounds like an old wive's taile.

With Seramas, males tend to have thicker legs. I had one hatch a while ago that could give a Cornish a run for its money... and he is definitely a little boy. Not fully reliable, but better than sexing by who curls up and who doesn't. Good luck with the little fluff balls!

YAY!!!!! 5 chicks out now, 1 egg zipping, and the last egg pipped (just starting to zip it looks like)!

One of the two I just found is the most adorable tan color!......I will post pics of them...but I am going to get a couple call ducklings here shortly so I don't have time to take photos yet!

Btw.....does anyone know how to predict adult color from the chick down (at least somewhat)....I would like to be able to have an educated guess as to what color these little peepers will be!
