(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got our first chickens in April 2017 as day old chicks.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We had 11 hens/ 1 rooster- I fear we've lost 7 of the hens tonight
(3) What breeds do you have?
Buff Orpingtons, New Hampshire Reds, Partridge Cochin, Plymouth Red, Dark Brahmas, and Jersey Giants

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Facebook

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Painting, photography, gardening, reading, music

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We have one dog aside from the chickens. We had 2 cats but they were lost in a house fire this summer. I love animals and eggs. They all like to be petted and even the rooster lets me hold him and pet him.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

So sorry about your house fire! :hugs And why do you think you lost hens tonight? I hope they are ok! :hugs

If you have any particular questions, be sure and ask us. Welcome to our roost! :)
Thank you! I don't know- I'm pretty freaked out about it. The cold is possible I suppose, I also don't know if we could've gotten a bad batch of lettuce? Can chickens get sick with E. coli? The only other new things were zeolites in the coop fresh and feather fixer.

Yes they can contract E.coli but I doubt its from the lettuce. Do they have diarrhea? Fever? If they are all sick all of a sudden, I would suspect it was something they ate. New foods or even too many vitamins will cause diarhea. This sort of thing passes. Usually only one bird will suffer from an E.coli infection.

BUT, if you do suspect a sickness in your flock, you might post in our Emergency section for more help.

Yes, I made a post over there. They all seemed fine just hours prior.
