I am Michelle and I am new to raising chickents. I have 10 hens. We got 7 them as chicks and three from other people at a later date. They are all with the exception of one about 1 year old. They all have been laying eggs since January. I get 8 to 10 eggs daily. Too much for us. We started selling them to coworkers. One of the eggs turned out to have a 4-day old chick in it. We don't have any roosters. Don't know how this could of happened. She sent me a picture this morning while preparing breakfast.

How long have you owned them? If you have had them more than 2 days, there is a rooster in your hen house.
We have had most for 11 months. The new ones we got new ones about 6 months ago. Nobody is crowing. We are getting 10 eggs a day from 10 chickens, so that would mean one is laying more than an egg a day if one was a rooster

:welcome
:yesss:We are glad you joined our flock.
Jump right in and make yourself at home.
Could this person also be buying eggs from someone else? If you don't have rooster/s then it's obvious this didn't come from one of your eggs

I’m not an expert but I think chicks develop mostly from the egg yolk part since the bullseye is normally in the egg yolk. That seems to me a part of connective tissues of ovas detached before it got incapsulated by eggshell, another thing there is no veining around the eggs that normally will start if there is an embryo forming. Just my unexpert opinion.

Greetings and welcome to BYC! So glad you joined us. All I can say is WOW! That is just too weird! If you've had all of your hens for more than 30 days, and no rooster, There's no way the eggs could be fertile. I don't see a fertility bulls eye in that yolk either. That may be something else entirely that got encapsulated in the egg. Chicks develop from the yolk, not separate and outside of it.

There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

ETA: I didn't answer your survey because the answers offered don't really make sense associated with the question asked.:idunno

G'Day from down under Michelle :frowWelcome!

I am swaying towards your coworker either mixing up your eggs with some (s)he has gotten elsewhere or may be even playing a prank on you?

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
