New to Chickens!

I am new to raising my own chickens but I have experience with raising chickens as a child. I do not currently have any chickens but we plan to start by this coming spring. I have been a member of backyard chickens for two years now and I often read articles on here. I found this site while researching tips on raising chickens and chicken coop ideas. My wife and I are new home owners in the countryside of Maryland and we are very excited about finally being able to start raising chickens. Currently our neighbors have about 10-15 chickens and we chicken sit when they are away. My hobbies include gardening, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. I am married and have two boys that are 12 and 14. I am currently serving in the US Army as a Veterinary Technician. I currently have a dog, cat, and Gecko as pets but in addition to chickens soon we plan on raising goats as well.

Chickens and goats! How wonderful!! Goats were my entry animal to having too many critters on a small acreage. Now, the goats share my attention with hair sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, cats and a dog. I think of myself as a petting-zoo keeper without the stress of pleasing daily visitors.
