New to chickens

We are a family of 5. My husband and I have 3 girls ages 14, 11, and 7. In a few short weeks we will be getting our first chicks and we are all so excited....ok, maybe not so much my husband I can't wait to have fresh eggs for my family.
I work full-time as a certified pharmacy technician at Walgreens and my husband is a store manager for an automotive retail company. We currently have 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 parakeets, and 1 bearded dragon!
This year, we will also be putting in our first garden. Our goal is to be as self-sustaining as possible.
I look forward to all of the knowledge everyone has to share!
