I now have eight birds and the coop is only 4’x8’, I would have to redo the sleeping perches. Not bad to have a roo, just would suggest increasing the flock size so the hens aren't abused.
They have over 100 birds and told me that they would switch them, but now that I had them for about 6/7 weeks I hate to get rid of them and start the introduction al over. The person you got them from have any more and willing to switch to make good on them?
You won't be able to keep them unless you get a ton of more hens. You can't keep 2 cockerels with 1 hen. They have over 100 birds and told me that they would switch them, but now that I had them for about 6/7 weeks I hate to get rid of them and start the introduction al over.
I also have 5 hy line brown’s. But I’m not interested in roosters. You won't be able to keep them unless you get a ton of more hens. You can't keep 2 cockerels with 1 hen.
A rooster to keep around isn't bad to have. They keep you from having to buy birds through breeding, and they also protect the flock by being the watchful eye for the girls. But to each their own. Some municipalities won't allow males and some people just don't want them. Honestly I had no interest I having a rooster myself in the beginning. I bought a book at TSC to help me and learn where I learned a ton. There's benefits to having one. Not trying to convince you to keep one. Just letting you know there are benefits to having one.I also have 5 hy line brown’s. But I’m not interested in roosters.
