New to chickens

Hello! I am getting my coup ready and planning to get my first flock of chickens in a few weeks! My 14 year old son has been begging to raise egg layers for years since we moved into a house with a large chicken coup. I purchased a 9 x 14 covered metal run to add to it that we installed yesterday. We have owls, hawks, coyotes and other predators on our property so we need an enclosure. What are some of your favorite breeds of chicken?
