New to chickens

Welcome to the forum Chris! You're pet chicken is so stinking cute, she's living like a queen in there. I hope you find many insights for any questions you have and may even find yourself helping others with their questions. Animals are lovely to have around each has their own joy they can bring. Getting eggs is great. Be very careful of chicken math. I thought it was a myth until I got chicks from tractor supply.. I was going to buy pullets close or already laying (always worked with the grown ones) but chicks are can be addicting.
Thank you so much! Yes lots to learn. I have to remove her eggs. I kept them to see if they were fertile but I think they are not because I have not seen any rooster and also I did candling and have not seen any signs of chicken embryo.

What’ Prefab? Prefabricated ?
Yes it's the premade ones you buy in the store. They may work for small numbers or as a transition but they are rarely rated to fit the number of chickens that they claim to unless it's small bantam type even then some bantams may prove bigger than the coop can hold when you try to have the max number in it.

I have this used it only as a chick from inside to outside transition, it's now a duck house for three ducks the run door on it is always open into a larger run it's attached too. This thing should not have 6 full size chickens in it but they say it can. I took the joke of a roost bar down because ducks don't need it and a full size chicken would be squished using it just no clearance. They also tend to not be vented well enough so I had to add vent holes.

Great idea. That is something I have thought about. Im still trying to learn how to manage her. She is super tame. Let’s me hold her etc. She is currently laying on infertile eggs for about a few weeks. I need to remove them and that’s my next question which I will look up… will she get depressed if I remove her eggs? She is broody now and it’s time to get her out of that broody trance. At first I was not sure if the eggs where fertile but I did candeling and it’s almost been three weeks and I don’t see anything. I don’t intend on getting a male chicken. I want to have a female chicken partner. But I want to make sure they get along and that it doesn’t cause trauma either. I don’t want them to try to peck at each other and then end up with a mean bully chicken. Thanks I’ll look into what you send.
She won't get depressed but can remain broody.
Getting two other pullets will help her be happy. There is a pecking order and they will peck each other this is natural. It is what they do to remain strong and happy with each other.

Excellent

Thank you so much!! I will remove the eggs today. I had her in my shed house for a while…. Then transitioned her to this … I figured that since I moved her to a new environment I would leave her with the eggs for at least a day? So she can have a sense of familiarity in a new environment? But I guess it might be safe to remove the eggs today? I have had them for a little over two weeks. How exciting. Ok so it seems to me that everyone I have spoken to says they must have a partner. Do they do ok with other females? I know a lady who is has a farm and she was going to give me a partner. She is adorable. White and I believe smaller than my current chicken. So I may have to reconsider.

Yes, remove them today. Yes, it is preferred to have three females (young called pullet over a year called hen). Look into how to integrate them.

I like this article about it. Many on here have talked extensively about it as well.
I would not get a rooster. They need more then one female.
