My family just got 8 4-day old easter eggers on 3/2- straight run. We've been reading all we can online to learn. With the uncertainty of the economy, we want to get a good supply of eggs, sell some, and keep a sustainable flock. The breeder we got the chicks from is local and tells us we can exchange the roosters for hens, which is nice. We'll figure out which one to keep. They're a combo of silkies and Ameraucanas. We've had them just a few days in a brooder, we bought a chicken run, but we're still searching for the perfect hen house.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Uh oh. Not straight run. You more than likely have 75% cockerels. Straight run is how hatcheries rid themselves of all the boys they hatch that no one wants. You will need to have a plan now to deal with those boys. With so few chicks, you could only keep one if you are permitted and want him and all of them will need to be separated from the pullets when they are about 9-10 weeks old as they will absolutely torment the girls when they hit sexual maturity.
