I've been wanting to raise chickens for 3 yrs now some time now. I just moved to a new area and my neighbor has a new chicken that is not being accepted and beat up by her other 4 chickens and she asked me if I wanted it. So, here I go. Going to build something quick and rescue her! Any advise is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

What breed is she?

Are ANY of your neighbor's flock nice to the outcast? If so, ask for both of them so the outcast is not alone. Then, as @sourland suggested, build a much larger coop and run than you think you will need and get 2 more chicks or pullets next year to add to the pair.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Just letting you know should you want to build a coop for her and any future ones, Facebook Marketplace is a great place to check. We've found three sheds/hutches/dog houses for our chickens/ducks there.

We have a Coop forum here where you could find something to build too. Now wouldn't that be something if you wound up with a better coop than your neighbor? :)

I presume they gave you some chicken feed and/or advised you what to buy?

We're glad you're here!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

How wonderful you want to rescue this bird! Chickens have a pecking order and the lowest of birds can have difficulties defending themselves. You definitely might want to take another one of her birds too so this bird isn't alone. Chickens are extremely flock oriented. Maybe the next lowest in order bird?

Best wishes with this new adventure, if you have any particular questions along the way, please feel free to ask.
