I just started to want to get chickens the coop going to be behind my grandpa's house I want a large coop to keep around 45 chicken's in if I have 45 hens how many roosters should I have? sorry if I going overboard like I said sorta new here but if that's how many I want. What size coop do you recommend and do you have any construction plans for it. Also with that many chickens I was thinking about building a fence from the side of the coop all the way around like a square to the other side with a gate in. Last is there will be a door going into the chicken coop. Also 2 exits for the chickens on the front, left and right this is if you don't have any construction plans. Sorry if it's complicated but I don't know how to describe things hope you post back

You'll want one rooster per 15-20 hens, so you're looking at 3 roosters. Coop size for 48 birds would be 192 square feet [4sf per bird]. This makes the coop in the 20' x 10' range. The run itself will need to be 480 square feet.

No plans on hand, but there are plenty around if you search.

And what DarkWolf said.

Finally- It's OK to go overboard, everyone else here does as well.

Imp- we can't help ourselves

12' x 16' is a good size, and uses 4x8 plywood well (size wise). That is nearly 200 square feet (192).

I do not have written plans, but my coop is that size. I do have pictures of it, if that would be any help to you.
