New to Chickens

Anyone else have any suggestions truly am a chicken newcomer and need all the advice I can get! The predators that I n=know of in my area are fox, cats, and dogs... should I use Chicken wire, hardware clothe, or welded wire?

I bet there's hawks in your area too. That's what we mainly have problems with 'round these parts. If you use fencing to keep out other critters, besure to drape in along the ground about 1 foot out, that way they won't be able to dig under.

Will chicken wire keep hawks out? doesn't seem like it... and I was planning on lining the bottom of the coop with 1/2" hardware cloth and the run with 2x4 welded wire so no critters can get in seeing as I'm building a mobile coop/ tractor I can't bury wire. Do you think the chickens will injure themselves scratching in between the 2x4?

I have 4 Red Sex Links I got from the local feed store. They lay extra large bown eggs and are very hardy. I also have two Easter eggers that lay some nice blue-green eggs to add a little color to the carton. Also have one Black Australourp and one Road Island Red. It's a nice combination. I was getting 7 eggs from 8 chickens a day last week. They seem to look forward to me collecting them, like they are proud to give them to me. What ever you decide you should really enjoy it. Welcome aboard!
