Hi there! My husband and I are both new to the back yard chickens, we're wanting to raise a few for eggs. We are thinking about getting 2 so that they won't be lonely. I'm looking for any advice that is out there, and also as to which chickens would be good for living in South East Texas.

Hello and

! The best birds for a really hot climate will be the Leghorn types with smaller bodies, less-fluffy feathering, and larger combs. Good luck :)

Welcome to BYC! I think the best breed of all I've had are the Bantam Cochins and the Silkies. They both make wonderful mothers across the board and they're very personable. Mine, including my young roosters, follow me around the yard and come when I call them. Such great personalities!

Hi and :welcome

I haven't had a lot of experience with different breeds, but my sex link hens have always done well in the heat (we live in Australia) and they lay a lot of eggs. We started off with two as well. It was a good number, as we wanted to start off slowly.

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D

I don't know enough about breeds to make a suggestion, but I see you got some good advice already. Enjoy your chickens!
