New to chickens.

hello and welcome! very good advice to go to learning center. But I use news paper laid flat in layers while brooding. just pick up layer or two, then they have layer under to use. don't use cedar chips it causes breathing issues and can kill them. I don't use pine chips until they are almost filly feathered out. good luck with your babies!!!

I am not familiar with hay in brooder, I know straw is bad since it is hollow and can hold moisture which can cause mold. please try a search for hay in brooding and good luck!

Good morning! I'm happy to report I have had 2 babies and 3 pipping. I had to asst one yesterday it was a breech baby. It has had a lot of challenges so far. He seems to be doing okay at this point. I'm concerned about his umbelical cord. I have decided to let nature take its course and hope for the best. It looks like another one of the three might be breech also. I have seen progress from it over night so we will see how it goes. I will update later to date.

Good luck ! do searches on anything that pops up on your babies, I have never hatched any yet. and can't give suggestions. :( sorry for that.

First I wanna thank every one for there warm welcomes! Out of 12 eggs 4 was pulled on day 14 because they were duds. So with the 8 left we got 5 beautiful little babies. I had to asst in two of them. One was wrong end and the other was just going to long. They both are doing teriffic at this point. I'm looking forward to switching them over to the brooder this afternoon sometime.
