Hello everyone!

My husband and I are recently retired and have retired to the country! YAY!!! While I grew up visiting my grandparents' farm, I was raised and lived in the suburbs of Atlanta until now. We have moved to the mountains I grew up visiting. We live on 4 acres with our chickens and Max, our dog. My dad has a house on the property as well and will be moving up soon. We have 3 children and 1 grandson. The youngest two kids graduated from high school this month. Our son is heading to the Marine Corp and our youngest daughter is heading to college; while our other daughter is busy being mommy to our 2 1/2 year old grandson.

Along with maintaining our little farm I love to cook, crochet and read. I plan to take the time to learn to quilt and sew. One of the first things I knew I wanted was chickens, so in March we got our first ones.

We decided on 4 barred rocks and 4 golden comets. The girls are about 14-15 weeks old now and I'm patiently . . . . ok, not so patiently. . .. waiting on my first eggs. The girl in my avatar has come to be known as Pretty Girl. She is the one that has chosen to be a pet and nestles into my lap daily, however all of my girls come running and 'talking' when they hear my voice.

I came across Backyard Chickens in a Google search and regularly visit the site. As I said earlier - we retired, actually my husband retired in 2012 from a large county Fire Department and I unofficially retired from the same department (too young for official retirement)

. If I had stayed until retirement date, we would have been stuck in those suburbs for another 8 years!! We had the opportunity to get out and we did. I'm loving our venture into chickens and am looking forward to adding to our flock in the future as well as adding more animals to our little farm.

Great that you could bust out of the hustle and bustle of the big city and move out to the country! No better feeling. Pretty Girls is adorable! She is VERY pretty. I know it is hard to wait on those eggs to start coming, but when they do, it will have been well worth the wait!

Enjoy all your poultry adventures and welcome to our flock!
