Hello, this all started when a chicken showed up in our yard three months ago. Animal control tried to catch her but they gave up. So now we started feeding her and she stayed and we fixed her a bed. Every day about 4 o’clock I’d see her leaving the yard and she would be back somewhere around seven and she stayed for three months and then she was just gone. My husband was depressed he missed her so I said well let’s have a new hobby and we went out and bought six babies now we are trying to figure out what we do with all this. They have been living in our family room which we do not use anymore downstairs in a big tank but they are getting big and I’m thinking it’s time for them to go outdoors. They are about two months all now, this is in Massachusetts and the weather is running maybe 30° Or little lower. Is this too soon to put them out in the coop. thanks

Hi & :welcome

Glad you could join us here! At 8 weeks they should be fully feathered and if you have weaned them off heat they should be fine to go outside in the coop. You can get your room back then! :D Are you all set with a secure coop for them?

Good luck and enjoy your time here on BYC :frow

It's not too soon to get them out! Mine are 8 weeks, have been out in coop for 3 weeks w many nights of freezing weather. We had a low of 19 this morning and they were unfazed. They have down jackets now! Don't worry!
Welcome to BYC!

What a nice way to get into Chickens!

No to the coop yet, shopping on line. No handy man here.

That’s a shame on no handy man! If looking online be sure to double check measurements/quality/reviews and don’t believe what they say about how many birds you can fit in. Unfortunately they often over estimate how many can be housed. That’s not to say though there are not some good cops out there :)
