Hi Everyone, thanks for letting me join. I am a new chicken, or chick, owner and I stalk this site often when I need answers so I decided I should probably ask to join in on the fun.

At this time we have 3 silver spangled Hamburg, 3 salmon Faverolle, and 3 silkie chicks.

I am really hoping they are all hens but we can't tell on the Silkie's yet, they are only 3 weeks old but so cute! I am also hoping they all get along once they are grown so I don't have to build separate housing for everyone.

Thanks for letting me join.

Welcome to BYC!

And congrats on the new chicks! With Silkies, you really can't sex them until they are 6 months or more older. Usually you wait until one crows or lays an egg. But we do have a What Gender section you can post pics of your chicks when they are a bit older for help with sexes....

Definitely stop by our learning center too. Lots of good articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry...

And if you want to chat with your chicken neighbors, you can do so in your state thread here...

Great to have you aboard and enjoy your new chicks!

Salmon faverolles are generally a very docile breed that tends to get picked on, and silkies too because other breeds don't consider them chickens. So these should get along and be happy campers. I don't know anything about Hamburgs.

Silkies usually can't be sexed before 5-6 mos. old. Salmon faverolles have distinctly different colors when their true feathers start coming in - so you should be able to tell males from females. You can probably find pictures of both sexes if you put it into the search box.
